Spanish- What makes Café de l'Academia a great restaurant is the sense that the locals absolutely adore it. However, with menus in English and bilingual waiters (not as common-place here as one might find in the rest of Spain), it's tourist-friendly and heaving even in the off-season so you want to book early. The overall effect is very clever because one never feels like a tourist. The fact that it's closed on Saturdays and Sundays might strike some as odd but it's so busy the rest of the week they probably need the break. If you've had your fill of tapas and complex modern Spanish cuisine, this is a fantastic place for simple but delectable, hearty dishes. Fantastic fish, meat and pasta plates adorn the very lengthy menu (and you can even get some of the finest Iberian ham and eggs if that's what you fancy). The atmosphere is what really makes it, though, and the outside seating in the opposite square is great for warmer evenings. It's so cosy that you're likely to stay on well past last orders.
